Lucknow : In the state capital Lucknow, strong claims are being made regarding the achievements of the police force, backed by visible improvements in law and order over the past few years. The Commissionerate system, introduced to modernise and strengthen policing, has today completed its six successful years. To mark the occasion, a grand ceremony was organised at the Reserve Police Lines, Mahanagar.
The event was attended by Director General of Police (DGP) Uttar Pradesh Rajeev Krishna as the chief guest. Police Commissioner Amrendra Kumar Sengar, along with several former Police Commissioners and senior officers, were also present at the ceremony.
During the programme, 150 police personnel were honoured with commendation certificates for their outstanding performance in maintaining law and order, ensuring women’s safety, and controlling cybercrime. The DGP personally felicitated 19 police personnel, boosting their morale and recognising their dedication to duty. The event concluded with a traditional community feast, where officers and constables shared a meal together, symbolising unity and mutual coordination within the force.
The Commissionerate system was implemented on January 13, 2020, by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and has since brought about significant changes in Lucknow’s security framework. Notably, in 2025, not a single incident of dacoity was reported in the district, reflecting the effectiveness and alertness of the police. Due to the impactful implementation of Safe City and Mission Shakti initiatives, crimes against women have reportedly reduced by 20 per cent.
To tackle technology-based crimes, cyber help desks have been set up in every police station, along with a dedicated cybercrime police station. Emphasising police welfare, infrastructure development has also been prioritised, including the construction of six new police station buildings, a hostel for 700 women constables, and modern barracks.
The completion of six years of the Commissionerate system stands as a significant milestone, highlighting Lucknow Police’s progress toward more efficient, responsive and people-centric policing.
